Just recently my laptop has been unable to load webpages, even though it indicates that I am connected to the internet.
I've tried both firefox and internet explorer, both of which fail to load up any webpage that I try. However, if I run my laptop in safe mode with networking, both of the browsers work fine. This happens whether I am connected to an ethernet cord or using wireless. Ive tried running both malwarebytes anti-malware and trendmicro to scan for viruses, both of which could not find any. I've also tried disabling my firewall.
Also, I can still use aim and message people even when my browsers refuse to work. Any help you can give me to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated! I'm currently stuck using safe mode. I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 on Vista Home basic 32-bit. Log on as an administrator, go Start Run and type: 'cmd'. In the window that appears type: 'netsh winsock reset'. You need to make sure that you know if such DNS settings are required before you make this change. I ran the lspfix, it informed me that it found no problems and there were no changes necessary.
When I ran the winsockxpfix, it said 'Registry Import Info not found' followed by 'Repair complete Please reboot.' And then followed by 'Run-time error '55': File not found.' So I wasn't sure if it really fixed anything, but I rebooted anyway and found that I still could not browse the internet. I've also tried running registryfix7 and a program called SmitfraudFix, which is supposed to clean a DNS hijack I believe. Do you think it could be a virus or malware?
