Wind Waker Randomizer November 15, 2018 by So you’ve seen your favorite Wind Waker streamers play it, or you’ve seen the overall increase of people streaming Wind Waker in general. That’s largely due to the Randomizer made for this game. You can thank LagoLunatic for this, as they are the one who made it. The goal of The Wind Waker is to go into various dungeons, beat the bosses and get the required items to eventually defeat Ganondorf. However, with The Wind Waker Randomizer, the goal is to defeat Ganondorf alone. Beating the other dungeons are not always required. The way this is done is by completely randomizing every single chest and item location in the game; with the exception of shop item refills, enemy drops and rewards for breaking pots or cutting the grass.
This puts a fresh new taste on The Wind Waker, going from a relatively linear experience that has you go through the dungeons in a set order, to an almost open world adventure. All the places in the game still require the same items needed to access them, but now that you will never know where any item is, you’re most likely going to be traveling all across The Great Sea in hopes of finding the item needed to progress. The game will be able to be completed without the use of glitches, although you can still use them if you’d prefer.
Now that I’ve explained what the randomizer is; I’m going to explain how to get it set up and what options you have. First, there are some requirements that are needed before starting this. A computer that is capable of running the most recent Development Build of the, or a homebrewed Wii. A clean un-randomized ISO of The Wind Waker. (Guide on how to acquire one.
At Zelda Sanctuary, we do not condone the use of piracy. Please do not download an ISO from any file sharing websites.). The most recent version of The Wind Waker Randomizer, which can be found on their. When you open up the Randomizer program, you are greeted with this. For someone who is new to randomizers or even Wind Waker, this will be confusing.
That is why this guide is here! The randomizer is completely customisable. If you don’t like completing long sidequests, you can just turn them off.
With them turned off, long sidequests will still be available to complete, but you will only get an item that isn’t required to beat the game. You are in control as to what type of item locations are randomized. Most of the options are self-explanatory, but some aren’t as obvious to some users. Before I explain what each option does, I will need to explain some terms used that will make the rest of the guide easier to understand.
Progression Items – These are the items that are required to progress through the game. The Cosmetic page! This is where the next level of game customization is. By default you have access to change the colours of Link’s Tunic, hair and even skin colour. You also have the option to change Link into his casual clothes from the second quest. You can even customize the colours of that, too!
Now, this is where things get interesting. You can even use custom player models. These player models will have to be specifically made to work with the randomizer, but that doesn’t stop people from making models for it. Even some character models come with custom sound files. As of writing this, the available character models to play as are;.
Link. Casual Link.
Aryll. Casual Aryll. Fado. Casual Fado. Cheerleader Link.
Casual Cheerleader Link. Goku. Casual Goku. Lucario. Casual Lucario. Medli.
Casual Medli. Sans.
Casual Sans. Tetra. Casual Tetra Each of these characters can have their colours changed to your liking. Finally, once you have set everything up with the settings you prefer using, it’s now time to generate the ISO!
Back on the first page, you’ll notice I skipped over a couple of important things at the top. I waited until now to explain this, as it’s generally a good thing to set up last.
Firstly, you need to select a clean non-randomized ISO of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. That goes into the “Clean WW ISO” area. Next, you want to set the output folder to a place where you can easily find it. I personally would recommend setting the output folder to the Games folder for the Dolphin Emulator, or if you’re not using Dolphin, somewhere you can easily find so that you get it onto your homebrewed Wii.
Then you want to set your seed. As mentioned earlier in this guide, the seed is how the items will be scattered, however it is also what the name of the ISO will be. That way you can have multiple randomized ISOs and not get confused as to which is which.
Finally, you want to click “ Randomize” at the bottom right to start the generation process. Generating the randomized ISO can take some time on lesser powerful hardware, but it usually won’t take long. Once you’ve done that, you’ve done it. You can start playing Wind Waker Randomizer! This guide will not explain how to get the game to run on Dolphin or official hardware, as you should already know how to do so with your preferred method. If not, I would highly recommend using a Search Engine such as Google or Bing to find out about those.
General Starting Tips The goal is to beat the game. Simple, really.
However the best way to start is to immediately rush to ticking off available item locations. First off, you will want to use an item tracker so you can easily see what items you have. The tracker can be found. For new players, you can keep track of all the item locations using the map provided, whereas experienced players will generally favour not using the map to test their knowledge of the game. My personal go-to method is to clear out everything on the island I start on, then immediately warp to Windfall Island. There’s so much stuff on Windfall Island it’s the perfect start! After clearing out the possible items from Windfall, I normally head to Pawprint Isle, for the free gift from the Salvage Crew, and depending on the items I now have, I will either go inside Pawprint, or head to Dragon Roost to get started on Dragon Roost Cavern.
From there, it’s free game. Just clear out every chest/reward that you can. If you ever get lost and don’t know what to do to progress, you can always ask in the official There are plenty of people in there that will help you.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is a enhanced remaster of the game,. It was officially announced via a Nintendo Direct webcast on January 23, 2013. Further information on the game was revealed at and in subsequent Nintendo Directs.
The Wind Waker HD first became available on September 20, 2013 as a digital download from the North American Nintendo eShop. The packaged version was released on September 26 in Japan, on October 4 in North America and Europe, and on October 5 in Australia. Two of the game—one a special edition Wii U Deluxe Set, the other including an exclusive of —were also released in North America and Europe. The remaster has more detailed graphics than the original, namely rendering at a higher resolution, a new lighting engine and higher resolution textures. Some changes to gameplay were also made, the most significant of which include new items—namely the, the, and an improved —as well as the addition of a. An official screenshot displaying the enhanced graphics of the remaster.
Being a game for the Wii U, The Wind Waker HD runs at 1080p, compared to the original game's 480p. The remaster uses an enhanced version of the original game's cel-shading, the soft-shading. It utilizes a full-fledged lighting and shadowing system that allows for more realistic and fuller lighting than the original. The remaster also features bloom lighting to give a sense of 'surreal realism'.
In low-light areas, the cel-shading gives way to a softer, more realistic shading system. The lighting from torches and other point light sources is now much softer and more realistic, and objects now subtly reflect the color of nearby light sources.
Other shaders are used to increase the expressivity of characters. The textures used are the original high-resolution ones created during development of the original game, which used scaled-down versions of the textures to match the GameCube's hardware capabilities. 2D elements such as icons and the HUD are completely redrawn to match the style of the game's promotional artwork. Heat wave effects in Dragon Roost Cavern now only appear when the fire fountains are spouting.
When Link uses a Warp Jar, the transition effect is a shrinking/growing circle instead of the fade-out in the original game. The shallow water in the boss room for, which in the original game did not reflect Link and some other objects, now reflects everything within the room. Though all other graphical elements were updated for high-definition display, the 3D models and character animations of the original game were left untouched in the remaster.
Audio Music in The Wind Waker HD uses higher-quality instrument samples than the original game. The updated instruments are most noticeable in fanfares and some boss themes. Some music includes new instrumental tracks, creating a fuller sound. However, most sound effects are unchanged from the originals. While the original game used Dolby (Surround) Pro Logic II, which encodes surround sound using analog stereo audio, the remaster uses true digital surround sound encoded for and sent through HDMI.
Gameplay Elements. The Swift Sail increases sailing speed. The gameplay in The Wind Waker HD has been tuned up from the original to enhance the player experience. The Triforce Shard Quest has been shortened; five of the eight shards are now found directly without having to go through the process of decrypting a Triforce Chart. Certain item usage cutscenes, such as the cutscenes that play upon using the to swing and salvage, have been shortened.
Some items, such as the, have new and improved functions. The Picto Box can now store 12 pictographs as opposed to 3. Link is now able to take self-portraits while making any of nine facial expressions.
Upon activating the side quest, a mark appears in the upper left corner of pictographs that are eligible for figurine-making. In addition, Carlov can now sculpt up to 12 figurines per day, as opposed to only one. The gallery can thus be completed more rapidly and efficiently. All pictographs can be sent to other players in the. The receiving players can add the pictographs to their own Picto Boxes and use them to complete their Nintendo Gallery.
Additionally, he no longer needs a Forest Firefly for the Deluxe Pictobox. Sailing has also been improved with an upgrade to the, called the. The Swift Sail enables the to sail faster by pressing the A button. In addition, it automatically changes the direction of the wind to the boat's heading. This replaces the function of the A button in the original game, which was used to stop the boat from sailing.
The changed functions came about as a result of technical limitations in the original; the GameCube version loaded only a single 'chunk' of ocean as Link traveled, requiring the slower sailing speed to mask loading timeswhile the Wii U can and does load the entire Great Sea at once. This does, however, result in occasional framerate issues, particularly during rainfall. The Tingle Bottle allows players to send messages through Miiverse The, which allows players to randomly send messages to other players, replaces the in the original game. The Tingle Bottle is used to send messages in bottles, which will subsequently appear on the shores of other players' islands. The, previously only accessible via the Tingle Tuner's, can now be obtained with regular Bombs.
Now appears on after all five statues have been found. Link's actions have been altered slightly. He is now capable of changing direction while swinging on a rope, without having to stop first. He can also move while in first-person view while aiming the Grappling Hook, Boomerang, Hero's Bow, and Hookshot. However, the shield button is no longer the 'grab' button for draggable objects, and instead both the 'grab' and 'climb' commands are part of the primary action button, making block controls act like older games.
The game includes a higher-difficulty Hero Mode, but unlike other incarnations it has no unlocking requirements, and can be toggled on or off when starting a new game or when a save game is resumed. Do not appear in Hero Mode, forcing Link to use potions to regain health. In addition, enemies deal double the amount of damage as in normal gameplay.
The game supports GamePad-only play, allowing for play without a television, as well as control with the Wii U Pro Controller, for those who prefer a traditional control scheme. During use of the Pro Controller, the GamePad can still be used as a map. Other altered gameplay elements include:.
The starting holds 500 instead of 200. As a result, obtaining a wallet upgrade is no longer mandatory to pay Tingle's fees and thus complete the game. There are 5 additional that replace the removed. The is no longer obtained from. It is found at the bottom of the. The that was there in the original game was moved to an underwater chest, found via the new Treasure Chart #46.
Link does not get knocked out of the King of Red Lions when he takes damage at sea (aside from some exceptions, such as explosive barrels). Enemies have less invincibility after being damaged, making it possible for certain sword swings to hit twice.
Conducting with the Wind Waker does not begin until a direction is input. After being learned the first time, the preanimated version of Wind Waker melodies is only cued the first time the song is played since loading the game. While gliding, shows a -like glowing symbol below Link's feet where he will land. While using the cannon, the projectile's trajectory is displayed on the screen, thereby making aiming the cannon much easier. Once obtained the first time, a 's advice can be read from the. The Fishmen no longer change their location after feeding them.
Pots which previously contained 3 of an item now only contain 2. Items dropped by enemies defeated at sea are automatically drawn towards Link. lasts for 30 minutes instead of 20.
The of is required to complete the. When a 's eye is destroyed, it glows blue instead of turning black. 's cost 150 instead of 50. The chest that 18 leads to contains 50 Rupees instead of one. The is no longer needed to get the from Lenzo. He gives Link a for bringing him one. on top of the chest in the no longer freezes the game.
There is now a northwest wind in, as opposed to no wind. The no longer hits through the bulb when it comes back to Link. 's tongue no longer extends and his tongue cannot be latched onto while he is flying towards Link. The figurine no longer states that Octoroks are the 'winners of the perfect attendance award', since they were absent from. The symbols now are always visible regardless of which direction they are facing. and will follow Link through doors in the and, instead of having to be carried through them. A circle of light no longer appears around Link when he enters a dark area.
All-Purpose Bait now costs 30 Rupees when purchased from, as opposed to 10 Rupees. Seagulls can no longer fly through the small tree saplings that are found throughout many different islands.
After clearing the, the near the entrance to the will disappear. Certain character animations that were repeated in the original game are now only used once.
Interface Changes Because The Wind Waker HD was developed for control with the Wii U GamePad, additional control methods have been added. The has been made accessible through the GamePad's touchscreen, with no need to pause the game. It is now possible to slide an item icon on the GamePad to one of the three slot icons at the top of the screen, allowing players to switch items quickly. The older style of item selection by pausing and using the d-pad and buttons must be used when playing the game with the Wii U Pro Controller, and may also still be used with the Wii U GamePad.
Some items, such as the, are permanently mapped to certain buttons as opposed to being equipped to the three item slots. This allows players to quickly and conveniently access these items, as they are key to playing the game. First-person aiming of items is achieved through either the right analog stick or the GamePad's gyroscope, though there is an option to disable the gyroscope. Link can also move in first-person mode, though item usage is limited to ranged weapons such as the.
Other Changes Some cutscenes where Link makes a facial expression silently have voices added to match the expressions. The ending cutscene and staff credits, which were prerendered in the original game, are now fully real-time cutscenes in the remaster. However, the smooth transition effects from the original cutscenes (the first part of the ending cutscene transitions with a fade effect to the credits, which then fade to the second part of the cutscene) have been replaced by fade-to-white effects, presumably due to the difficulty of implementing the original cutscenes' transitions in real-time rendering.
The intro cutscene, which plays upon the start of a new file, is skippable, but no other cutscenes are. Development The game was officially announced on January 23, 2013, in which only a couple of screenshots featuring, and were shown.
The decisions to remaster the game came after the team decided to attempt to upscale the game's graphics to the Wii U's HD capabilities, after in E3 2011. The game was also designed to decrease the gap in time between the release for Skyward Sword. Nintendo showed the first trailer for the game during its E3 Direct livestream on June 11, 2013, revealing the game in motion as well as some of the new features of the game. Limited Editions.
